Hi APC, my name is Deya! Growing up, I spent a lot of time by myself. This meant that novels, sketchbooks, journals, music, and singing became my best friends. I created an imaginary world for myself. During the course of my life, a majority of my teachers kept telling me to choose one art form over another. I was repeatedly told that if I didn’t choose one, I would let everything go to waste. It took me a while to realize that each of my loves enriched and did not detract from each other. Today, I express myself through my music AND art. As a doodler and singer, I call myself a “car(tune)ist. On my page, @deyarcreations, I sing anything from Pop, to Bollywood, to Bangla Folk, write captions about being an Canadian-American-Indian-Bengali, and follow the story of two cartoon characters (Milo, from the motherland of Bengal and Benti, a Bengali American) in hopes to inspire other aspiring artists and musicians, as well as those in the South Asian diaspora.
