Hi APC! My name is Crystal, so I guess I’m just here to talk about basketball and just how much it means to me. Many people may look at sports in general as just a hobby, but for me, basketball is where most of my happiness is derived. I started playing basketball in 5th grade and mostly it was just for fun, but after a while, I just grew to love the sport so much. My brother would be the one to coach me and teach me new things.
But then, during my sophomore year of high school, I passed out at home and learned that I had chronic anemia. Anemia isn’t too bad of an illness, however, at that point the doctors were describing it as a life or death situation for me. My parents heard this and said no more basketball, I didn’t play on the team my last two years of high school which felt like a punishment at the time but thank God my anemia has gotten better and is basically gone.
Now I mostly play with my brother, but in the future I still want basketball to remain a big part of my life. In college, I don’t think I’ll be able to play for the school team but I plan to do it as an intramural sport. These past two years were so hard for me, it felt like the end of the world, but today I can say those two years off shaped me into the person and player I am today.
