Hello APC! My name is Kouri Peace and I am an incoming freshman at the University of Florida. I have been doing track ever since I was seven years old. I have always been pretty fast and I find it thrilling to compete against other fast girls. The very first year I ran in a race, I made it to the Junior Olympics! After that day, I knew that running could end up changing my life if I continued to work hard at improving my times. At my high school, I was the only black girl on the track team. It made me feel so special when I would win races and people would acknowledge that I was talented. Attending a racially homogeneous prep school, it was a relief to finally stand out for something other than the color of my skin.
My goal is to take my track career to new heights by going to the Olympics. Running makes me happy and also gives me an avenue in which I can prove doubters and naysayers wrong, by doing what they thought I couldn’t do. I know that with my hard work and determination I can do anything. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for me whether it’s for track or even my career aspiration of becoming a surgeon. I know that whatever I’ll do in the future, I’m going to make myself and my family proud.
